English Dictionary and Thesaurus with Verbs App Reviews

I am a college student and this app comes in handy. Anytime I run into a new word, or even need a refresher of an old word, I have this dictionary app with me at all times.

I love to see market forces in action. This app started at some ridiculous price ($30, I think.). Then it dropped to $20 (Still too high.) and now its at $10. For ten bucks this Dictionary and Thesaurus is worth it. I used to carry a pocket dictionary and was hoping there would be a good dictionary app for the iPhone. This is that app. You get a dictionary, a thesaurus, a verb conjugator, and a little tool that spells out large numbers. Great for writing checks! (If you still write checks these days!) My only complaint is the app could look a little better. But that really is not a problem at all, and the art could get in the way if it wasnt done right. If you want a dictionary app and thesaurus for the iPhone then this is it, for now.

Uhmmm....well, the UI is better now is way better to navegate...still missing the word incorporation as you type.

Ultralinguas English Dictionary and Thesaurus is easy to use and the interface is well designed. The newest version (1.1) greatly improves the thesaurus integration. One major feature I hope they add in the future is a usable pronunciation guide. The strange characters currently provided after the word are useless. They dont even use consistent symbols for the same sound in the same word. (This is evident even in the sample images they provide) At $9.99, I think Ultralinguas English Dictionary and Thesaurus is very good a good value. (I paid $19.99 when I bought it, and I feel I got my moneys worth). With the 1.1 update I’m increasing my rating to 4 stars.

So far Ive used this app to look up 3 words, none of which are in this dictionary. A major update is needed and I wouldnt recommend buying this until they do.

I feel I wasted my 10 bucks, a lot of words you can not find, no spell check, and the recent update only makes it pretty! Too many things need to be improved!

I am unable to download the upgrade to my Mac and the online support is not helpful.

If Id had access to a database, I would have loved to try and write an application like this! Obviously Id like an OED, but in lieu of that, this application fits the bill. From the one star reviews Ive read based on the price, those "reviewers" need this dictionary more than those that have paid for it so far. Spend the money to have instant access to a great reference tool. After a little further testing I am adding a slight caveat to this review... I downloaded a more recently released free dictionary and noticed this flaw, so I put Ultralingua to the test too. I found that when looking up "punctilious" only "punctiliously" is provided as a result. Additionally, it was defined as, "in a punctilious manner" in both dictionaries, which does no good whatsoever and is the reason Ive dropped it from five stars down to three.

Nice to have a dictionary even though you could go on line, only request I have is to be able to Change font..... unless I just missed it.

Poor quality dictionary, should be free for what it has to offer. $10 is way to much money for a ditionary that can only come up with word definitions 3 out of 10 words at best. It always fails to find the words Im looking up, very disappointed. Try WeDict, its free and has plentiful libraries to add to it on a JBd phone. Boo for Ultralingua.

I love this dictionary. I mean that the deffinitions are so concise and tasty. e.g. reverie- n. absent minded dreaming while awake, etc.

All of the words Ive looked up were in this program. Will continue using it.

How can you have the word pedantically, but NOT pedantic in a dictionary? And THEN, use the word pedantic in the definition of pedantically?

If you are somewhere that doesnt have Internet, then this is a good dictionary app for you. It works without internet, so I use it when I am doing schoolwork in the car.

i thought it doesnt need net connection so thats pretty cool. BUT 1. they are advertising it as dictionary + thesarus but its actually just a dictionary, the thesarus word collection is very very poor. so dont go by the screenshots. 2. many times it wont find the words in the dictionary itself.so even the dictionary word repository is not that large.

I almost bought it when it was 29.99 and then did buy it when it was 19.99. Mixed feelings about the price now being 9.99 (although glad to see the price dropping--just a little disappointed that I paid double what the price is now. However, I still feel it was worth the 19.99) What will it be next week? Oh well...on to the app...excellent dictionary. Quick and very well designed. This really is a great app and is a great reason to have an iPhone.

Great dictionary. I especially like the etymologies.

Nice application. Im impressed with its flexibility and speed. A genuine tool and far superior to web based surrogates prior to app store. Exceeded expectations.

This update apparently crashes for many users, but Ultralingua Support suggested deleting and reinstalling the app. Worked fine after that.
